I Made My First Backpack!!!

Hi there!!! Happy Friday! How are you doing? I hope all is well in your side of town. As for me, I have some exciting story to share! 😀 I can’t keep it together, I’m so excited about this. LOL.

Before we get into it, here’s a quick history…

I had zero experience in sewing using a machine. I remembered my mom tried teaching me when I was a teenager and as I recalled, I stepped on the pedal once, got scared and never went near it again. Hahaha! 😀 Fast forward to 2021, I loved the idea of sewing (mainly making bags) but never really got the courage to buy a machine and actually learn it. So I let it go. Then last year, my husband, surprised me with a sewing machine for Christmas. I literally had no idea, I was so surprised, scared and pressured but at the same time I was so happy. If that make sense. 😀

January 2022 was officially the first month I learned how to sew. I watched a million YouTube videos and read a lot of articles online.

Thanks to all the artists that create sewing patterns and to all content creators that share their knowledge on the internet.

I practiced sewing straight line stitches almost every night and weekends. Then started making small and simple things, also used different type of materials and tested them to ensure they are of quality. I made a lot of test products. 😀 And literally used them to test durability because that’s important. My husband used some of the things I created too, stress testing them. Hahaha. Once I felt confident of my creations, I started adding them in my shop – around May or June 2022. It was the best feeling in the world. ❤️

Fast forward to mid June 2022…

I made my first backpack! \(^o^)/

I never imagined that I’ll be able to make a backpack! Like seriously. I used to be so scared of sewing machines, now I love them. When I finished this bag, I was ecstatic and it felt so surreal. 🤩

This bag took me a few days to finish it but it is so worth it. I am in love with it. I’m currently using it to test quality. This is my mine, my next one will probably the one that will be added in my shop. 😉

Pattern is Making Backpack from Noodlehead, I love purchasing patterns from her. Her designs are amazing and the instructions are very easy to follow. This pattern came with 2 sizes backpack – a regular size and a mini. And of course, I made the mini size. 🙂 I like anything cute. 😀

In my first try, I used a cotton canvas exterior and quilt cotton for the lining. This was so fun to make. A little challenging as it was my first time but I learned so much.

Building parts and pieces of the bag before final assembly. I should have done a time lapse video but I forgot. LOL. 😀

What do you think of the mini backpack? Isn’t it super cute? Let me know in the comments below. I would love to know what you think.

Until my next story!
