Rigby Bag – Zip Pocket Side

This post is a little overdue. I actually finished bag number 2 shortly after returning from my international trip, but it took me longer than expected to get this blog post finished and ready to share. I’ve been juggling a few things, and between catching up on everything and working on new projects, it just took a bit more time than planned.

Let’s jump into the details!

What Materials Did I Use?

For this bag, I selected textured vinyl in a beautiful cream color for the exterior. I have to say, I absolutely loved working with this material. It was not only easy to sew but also very forgiving, which made the entire process a breeze. The subtle texture of the vinyl gives the bag a refined, yet understated elegance, and I’m thrilled with how it turned out.

The interior of the bag is crafted from soft white cotton, providing a nice contrast to the exterior. To add a bit of fun and personality, I decided to incorporate a splash of rainbow accents, which really brings the bag to life. It’s those little pops of color that make the design feel vibrant and playful without overwhelming the overall look.

To complement the interior, I went with rainbow zippers and matching rainbow zipper pulls, which tie everything together beautifully. I love how these small details create a cohesive, yet colorful, theme throughout the bag.

For the strap, I chose a durable white nylon that’s both sturdy and stylish, paired with rainbow-colored hardware to continue the playful, colorful theme. It’s a combination that works seamlessly with the rest of the design, and I couldn’t be happier with how everything blends together so harmoniously. The final product feels fresh, fun, and versatile, and I’m excited to see how you all feel about it!

What Are The Hardware & Tools Needed?

I sewed this bag entirely using my semi-industrial machine, the Sailrite LS1, which made the process both efficient and enjoyable. It took me around 4 hours to complete, starting with deciding on the fabrics, then studying the pattern, and finally moving on to cutting and sewing the pieces together. Choosing the right fabrics was a fun part of the process, as I wanted something that would not only look great but also be durable. While it was a time-intensive process, I really enjoyed how each step brought the bag closer to its final form. I love my Sailrite machine.

What was the most Challenging?

The most challenging part of sewing the bag was definitely the curves. They require a lot more precision and control, which made me realize I still need more practice to feel fully comfortable with them. I found myself going very slowly when sewing around the curves, taking extra care to ensure everything lined up perfectly. It’s one of those areas where patience really pays off, and I’m excited to continue improving my technique with each project. While it can be tricky, overcoming the challenge of sewing curves has been a rewarding experience!

Rigby Bag – Slip Pocket Side

I decided to make the Rigby Bag by Craft Owl Handmade, which is actually the very first pattern I’ve ever bought from this designer. I’ve been eyeing this pattern for a while, so I was really excited to finally dive into this project. There are two sizes to choose from, and I decided to go with the regular size for this particular bag.

And that’s a wrap on this project! I’m so excited to have shared the journey of creating the Rigby Bag with you. From choosing the fabrics to sewing the curves, every step was a fun learning experience, and I’m thrilled with how it all turned out. If you’re interested, the bag is available for sale, and I’d love for it to find a new home. I can’t wait to continue experimenting with new designs and techniques in future projects. As always, I’d love to hear your thoughts—feel free to leave a comment or share your own sewing experiences. Thanks for following along, and I’ll see you in the next post!

Oh, and by the way, the March bag is also finished, but I plan to post a separate blog specifically focusing on that bag soon! Stay tuned!
